Newcastle United are set to receive a club-record sale fee as forward Emily Murphy edges closer to joining Brighton, with sources confirming the 23-year-old is in advanced discussions over the move.
Murphy was Newcastle’s top scorer in the second division last season, contributing six goals and four assists in 15 starts. She has one year remaining on her contract, and the deal would represent a landmark transfer for the club.
The forward brings significant top-flight experience, having previously played for Birmingham City and Chelsea in the WSL, as well as spending time playing in the United States. She has also established herself as a regular for the Republic of Ireland since her international debut in 2024, starting five of their six Women’s World Cup qualifying matches this year.
Brighton have been active in the transfer market this summer, with Murphy set to become their sixth signing as they look to build on a season that saw them reach the Women’s FA Cup final.
Newcastle, meanwhile, are not expected to stand still. Despite losing their leading scorer, the club are believed to be targeting another attacking addition, having already made three signings of their own this summer.
