Ferran Torres has cast doubt over his Barcelona future after a series of candid comments during a promotional tour in the United States, with the forward admitting he is waiting to make the right decision about his next move. The 26-year-old is contracted to Barcelona until June 2027, but if no agreement is reached with the club, he will be free to negotiate with other clubs from January.
Speaking during the tour, Torres was asked where he expected to be playing next season. “I have a contract with Barcelona but, in football, you never know,” he said. “We are waiting to make the right decision. Right now, all I know is that I have to be in training for Barcelona on 12 August. Let’s see what happens.” When pressed on what Barcelona must do to keep him, his answer was blunt: “Show me they want me, come to negotiate.”
Torres also addressed reported interest from Paris St-Germain, stopping short of ruling out a move. “Every time these teams want you it’s a good thing,” he said. “You never know because in football everything can change in one minute, so I have to be ready for everything.” On how he would approach the decision, Torres added: “Trying to think what is going to make me happiest.”
The Spain forward has made 207 appearances for Barcelona since joining from Manchester City in 2022, though 94 of those — 45% — have come as a substitute. His profile has risen sharply following his winning goal against Argentina in the World Cup final, a moment he described with visible emotion. “I’ve watched it thousands of times. When I finished the game, I didn’t remember the goal. It was unbelievable. I can’t describe it with words.”
Torres’ openness about his situation has not gone down well with all Barcelona supporters, many of whom believe he has been too public about the possibility of leaving and is using the media attention to strengthen his negotiating hand. His US tour also included throwing the ceremonial first pitch before the New York Yankees’ game against St Louis Cardinals, underlining just how far his marketability has grown in the aftermath of the World Cup.
