Nottingham Forest have appointed Oliver Glasner as their new manager, with owner Evangelos Marinakis moving quickly to bring in the Austrian coach following a turbulent period at the club.
Glasner arrives at the City Ground with an impressive recent record, having won the FA Cup with Crystal Palace in his first season before claiming the Europa Conference League last season. He is one of only three coaches to have won both the Europa League and Conference League, having previously led Eintracht Frankfurt to Europa League glory in 2021-22.
The 50-year-old confirmed in January that he would leave Palace despite being offered a new contract, stating he wanted a new challenge. On his appointment, Glasner said the owner and leadership team’s trust in him was a key factor in his decision. “From my very first conversations with the owner and the leadership team, it was evident to me that they have a clear vision for this football club and complete trust and belief in me and my staff to build a strong future together over the long term,” he said.
Marinakis was effusive in his praise for the new appointment. “Oliver is a winner,” the Forest owner said. “He has consistently demonstrated throughout his career that he can build outstanding teams and deliver success against the strongest competition. Our ambition is not simply to compete — our ambition is to win, to challenge for major honours and to create a football club that our supporters can be proud of for many years to come.”
Glasner takes charge of a club that has seen significant managerial instability, with Nuno Espirito Santo, Ange Postecoglou, Sean Dyche and Nuno’s successor Pereira all having spells in charge since September. His stock is high following two major trophies at Palace, but questions remain over how long that goodwill will last if results fail to meet Marinakis’ expectations.
