Ipswich Town have completed the signing of Abdul Fatawu from Leicester City, with the 22-year-old putting pen to paper on a five-year contract at Portman Road.
Fatawu arrives having scored 16 goals in 100 games for Leicester since joining from Sporting in 2023. He was part of the Foxes squad relegated from the Championship last season, with Leicester now set for their second season in the third tier of English football. The Ghanaian, who played in all four of his country’s games at the World Cup, joins Gary O’Neil’s side as their fifth summer signing.
His arrival comes as Ipswich are willing to allow winger Jaden Philogene to leave, with the 24-year-old attracting interest from Europe. Bologna, Roma and Benfica are believed to be among his admirers, and Ipswich will sanction a transfer if a suitable offer comes in. Fatawu follows striker Emersonn, who joined from Toulouse earlier this month for a club record fee of around £26m, through the door. Defender Cedric Kipre and forward Chuba Akpom also signed permanently after successful loans last season, while goalkeeper Kayne van Oevelen arrived from Dutch side FC Volendam.
Fatawu spoke positively about his move, saying the club’s ambition was a major factor in his decision. “The ambition the club has is very exciting and I’m looking forward to being a part of that as we prepare for the Premier League season,” he said. “After speaking to the manager, I know what the expectation is and I’m looking forward to meeting my team-mates and starting work.”
The winger also referenced his familiarity with the club from his time in England. “I have played against Ipswich a few times during my time in England and I know how passionate the supporters are for the club, so I’m excited to play for them and show them what I can do.”
