Crystal Palace are pressing ahead with a move to sign Takehiro Tomiyasu ahead of the new season, with head coach Pierre Sage at the centre of the decision-making process. A broad agreement on terms was already in place, leaving Sage to determine whether to proceed with the signing of the versatile 27-year-old defender.
Tomiyasu, who has won 46 caps for Japan since his international debut in 2018, is understood to be viewed as a potential option on the left side of a back three. Sage is set to deploy three central defenders next season, and the former Arsenal man fits the profile the club are looking for in that role.
However, Palace want reassurances over the defender’s fitness. Tomiyasu’s recent career has been hampered by knee problems, and while the club are convinced of his ability, they are taking a cautious approach before finalising the deal.
Palace are also weighing up a move for Solly March, who departed Brighton at the end of last season. The 32-year-old has been recommended to the club, with the potential deal discussed internally at Selhurst Park.
Elsewhere, Palace have registered an interest in a loan move for Chelsea defender Josh Acheampong. The 20-year-old is on their radar, though there are currently no indications that Chelsea are willing to sanction his departure.
