Celtic manager O’Neill has confirmed the club are closing in on a club record £11m deal for 25-year-old Denmark international Hogh, with the player set to undergo a medical within 24 hours.
O’Neill was asked about the transfer after Saturday’s 2-2 draw with AC Milan in a pre-season friendly at Celtic Park. “Yes, I’m hoping that that will happen,” he said. “I think there’s a good chance of it. But, until someone’s actually signed and sealed, there might be things still up in the air, but it’s certainly progressing.”
The proposed fee would represent a club record for Celtic, with reports suggesting a deal has been agreed with Hogh’s Norwegian club. When pressed on whether the player was about to have a medical, O’Neill was unambiguous: “Yes, apparently so. He will have one in the next 24 hours, I think.”
Celtic have made only one signing so far this summer, with Colombian forward Camilo Duran arriving and hitting the ground running — scoring three goals in three pre-season warm-up games. The Scottish champions have also been strongly linked with Paderborn midfielder Mika Baur, though O’Neill was tight-lipped on that front, saying he “genuinely” could not give an update at this stage.
The Celtic manager did hint that further business could be on the horizon. “We’ve got a few other things in the pipeline that might come to fruition, which would be great for us,” he said.
