Brighton have completed the signing of defender Gabby George from Manchester United for an undisclosed fee believed to be in the six figures, as reported by BBC Sport.
The 29-year-old joined United in 2023 and made more than 50 appearances during her three-year stay, including being part of the squad that won the Women’s FA Cup in 2024. United had activated an option clause in her contract in January, leaving a year remaining, but George was seeking regular game time ahead of the move.
Manager Dario Vidosic expressed his delight at the signing. “Her versatility in defence gives us fantastic options and her technical quality on the ball will help elevate how we want to play,” he said. “She understands what it takes to perform at the highest level in this league week-in, week-out, and her leadership both on and off the pitch will strengthen our group tremendously.”
George came through Everton’s academy and played more than 100 games for the club before her move to United. She has earned three caps for England and brings considerable experience to a Brighton side who have also added Switzerland captain Lia Walti and midfielder Emilie Joramo from Hammarby this summer.
Brighton finished seventh in the WSL last season and open their new campaign at home to Arsenal on Sunday, 6 September.
