Morecambe Football Club and its two owners are facing regulatory action after directors Kuljit Singh and Harjit Singh failed to respond to two requests for information under section 65 of the Football Governance Act.
The Independent Football Regulator confirmed it has issued a warning notice to the club and both owners, provisionally determining that they breached information requirements without reasonable excuse. The IFR stated it is minded to issue a censure statement against the individuals and the club.
A censure statement grants the IFR the power to publicly name football clubs, owners, directors or senior executives who fail to meet licensing standards. The regulator also holds broader enforcement powers, including financial penalties, court injunctions demanding compliance, and the suspension or revocation of a club’s operating licence.
Although Morecambe suffered a third successive relegation last season and now compete in the National League North, the IFR’s remit extends to clubs at National League level, meaning its regulations remain enforceable against the club.
It is not the first time Morecambe have attracted regulatory attention in recent months. In March the club were placed under a transfer embargo over a disputed payment owed to former owners Bond Group Investments, though the embargo was lifted by the end of that month.
